Our paediatric continence physiotherapists can help to improve bladder and bowel control in children.

Your child’s assessment and treatment will be evidence based and sensitive towards the care of children and families.

Conditions that physiotherapy may help to manage include:

  • Constipation / soiling

  • Day wetting

  • Frequent urination

  • Urinary urgency (and urge incontinence)

  • Bed wetting

Assessment may be conducted using a real-time ultrasound scan through the abdomen.

Depending on the findings of an assessment, treatment may include:

  • Education of parents and child

  • Toileting programs

  • Pelvic floor muscle training / relaxation

  • Bio feedback

  • Teaching correct emptying techniques (bladder and bowel)

  • Bedwetting alarm programs

  • Liaison with kindergartens and schools

  • Referral to medical or other specialist and services

Children with problems that have been present for more than six months duration may be eligible for an EPC program from your GP to subsidise visits to a continence Physiotherapist.
