It is not uncommon to find women who have had no pelvic floor issues approach menopause and find they suddenly have difficulty controlling their bladder. Bladder leakage is common but should NOT be considered a normal part of ageing!
PELVIC PAIN/SEXUAL PAIN
The pelvic floor muscles are like any other muscle in the body and can spasm and cause significant pain with activities such as sex. As this is something that is often not readily discussed, women often suffer in silence for years. With significant consequences for both social interaction and intimacy.
Women can have problems at either end of the spectrum in regards to bowel function, from difficulty controlling bowel motions to constipation. Both can be equally debilitating and socially isolating.
PELVIC ORGAN PROLAPSE
About half of all women who have had a child have some level of prolapse, but only one in five women need to seek medical help.
