Melbourne Pregnancy and Pelvic Floor Physio offers online women’s health physiotherapy consultations for patients who are unable to travel to a clinic for any reason.

HOW DO ONLINE PHYSIOTHERAPY CONSULTATIONS WORK?

Telehealth physiotherapy involves consultation over a secure video platform to provide assessment, diagnosis, a treatment plan and follow-up treatment as required.

Many aspects of physiotherapy management do not rely on complex machines or hands on therapies with more evidence pointing towards the value of quality education and supervised rehabilitation plans. This kind of intervention lends itself to being delivered in an online format, and there is extensive research evidence to support the efficacy of tele-rehabilitation programs for a variety of conditions.

What kind of conditions are appropriate?

  • Advice about post partum symptoms (perineal stitches, scar healing, perineal heaviness or dragging, bladder conditions)

  • Pregnancy related back pain

  • Pelvic Girdle Pain

  • Abdominal Muscle Separation

  • Pelvic Floor Concerns

  • Return to exercise in the postnatal period

If you are unsure if your condition is suitable for Telehealth, email us and we can advise you.

How do you diagnose and treat without seeing in person?

Before your consultation you will be sent a subjective questionnaire asking for details about your condition. Your physiotherapist will review this prior to asking you further structured questions. From the answers to these questions your physiotherapist will form a clear idea of your probable diagnosis. You may be asked to demonstrate certain movements or tests to assist with confirmation of the diagnosis. If we ever remain unsure of a diagnosis we will refer you to a clinic for an in-person assessment.

What happens after the appointment?

Following any consultation, your individualised program and advice will be emailed to you. There is also the option to continue communication via email so any extra questions you have will be answered.

Will you tell me if i need to see someone in person?

If we believe you would benefit from a face-to-face assessment or treatment, we will be able to recommend a health professional in your area. We can also provide advice on which type of health professional may be beneficial for you, what questions or investigations you should request and provide written or verbal handovers as required.

What are the payment options?

Due to the nature of Telehealth, we require payment in full prior to your appointment. You will be requested to provide credit card payment at the time of making your booking.

If you have a EPC care plan, Medicare will provide full payment of your appointment and you will have no out-of-pocket expenses however you must phone us to book an appointment in this case on 93379125.

Private Health Insurance companies are working to implement rebates for Telehealth physiotherapy consultations - you should contact your provider in advance to check what rebate you may be eligible for. We can provide a receipt required for claiming. Our fees for Telehealth appointments can be viewed here.
